6 Design Styles to Personalize Your Home Renovation

We all have our own unique tastes, and our home is no exception. Choosing a motif for your home renovations that both improves your property and reflects your individuality can become quite overwhelming. That’s why having an expert on-hand to guide you in your journey is crucial.

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

1. Art Deco

The first visual that immediately pops into people’s heads when they think of this style is The Great Gatsby. Art deco became wildly popular in the 1930’s and 40’s, and experienced a resurgence in the 80’s. Bold geometric shapes and rich colors like reds and golds are its most common features, as well as intricate detailing laid on glass surfaces.

2. Beach Chic

If sand and flip flops are your style, don’t let our land-locked location stop you from creating your own beach house! Try incorporating a wrap-around porch or sun deck with louvered doors and hurricane or Bahama shutters. For the interior, think bold, vibrant colors or completely white surfaces with darker wood accents. Don’t forget your seashells!

3. Victorian

Channel your inner royalty with this style from turn-of-the-century England. Go big with exterior gables or incorporate this style’s intricate details using decorative trim and mouldings. The Victorian style doesn’t embrace an open floor plan; rather, it embraces romantic meanderings through smaller, defined rooms. It is common for a Victorian home to include a formal living room, dining room, and parlor/den.

4. Industrial

This style is easiest to attain if you live in a converted loft space or unique structure. However, just about any home can become an ode to industry. Think about hardscapes such as exposed brick walls and steel surfaces combined with vintage furnishings to create an edgy feel. Remember to add a few pops of color to avoid going from industrial to construction zone.

5. Minimalist

A minimalist style promotes open living space and an abundance of natural light through the use of large, glass windows and simple decoration. Typically, this aesthetic involves hardscapes softened by warm tones. Embrace new technology such as home automation systems and ventless fireplaces. Don't worry! You don't have to break the bank on this - just kidding, yes you do. Despite the price, the return on your investment is worth it.

6. Green/Smart

The green movement is here to stay, presenting endless possibilities to decrease your home’s carbon footprint. You can go the tech route with solar panels and smart heating and cooling systems, or you can take a natural path with reclaimed materials and increased natural lighting.

These are just a few of the many renovation styles to choose from. It’s important to take your time, know your options and decide what works best for you and your home. Please feel free to reach out to me if you’d like to discuss your renovation and design options.
